Sound and visual artists in the core coordinate and produce the overall experience, which is open to a variety of participatory states: as a static sound and light sculpture, as an interactive musical kiosk where instruments are made playable at each pod and mixed live, and as a dance party.
The core is seven feet to a side, and is made from wood sheathed in plexiglass. Bass bins provide a foundation for each bay of the core. Each of the pods is 15 ft away from the edge of their corresponding core wall. The pods contain input jacks for electronics and mounted speakers in both inward and outward facing positions.
In the months leading up to any given event, a forum on the website evolveandprevail.org will solicit sound to be used as source material for the installation's static sculptural state. Interactive group improvisations will be led by the artists from within the hub on a periodic basis during its installation.
STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHICAL INTENT

This installation seeks to stimulate the evolutionary process using sensory exploration, human interaction, and collective jubilation. The process is an attempt to provide a conduit for sound-related expression in as inclusive a manner possible. Our hope is that some of those who create and experience the results will find themselves closer to a world where,
"All humanity now has the option of becoming enduringly successful." - Buckminster Fuller, 1980.
Below is a geometric extrapolation of the proposed installation. The figure can be seen as a four dimensional representation of time and space using a telescopic grid. The system will be explained in detail on the website developed for the preliminary forum and a dialog will be opened up to further explore the application of this model:

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
The Core will function as a main I/O (input, output) for a surrounding group of musicians and participants. The objective is to create a constantly evolving piece of music that starts at the center and moves out, back to the center, and back out again. Illustrated in the model below, a piece of music starting with a rhythm track for example, originating at the core, will be passed to the first musician (A) by the conductor (Dominic). The conductor will bring this person out and begin the "chorus" section where every musician is heard. He will then pass the next section to (B) where the musician will extrapolate on the form initiated by the first musician, controlled by the conductor. This form will continue as it is passed to every musician in the circle. The output of each musician will be fed to the core through a mixer where it will be manipulated and sampled by Max and fed back to the speaker array. This means every person within the system is continually influenced by the previous participant. The music itself will be a combination of pre-concieved ideas and compositions, as well as controlled improvisations.
<img src="CORE.jpg"
The I/O core in the center is essentially a free standing recording studio. This structure will house all the DJs, lighting controls, visual artists, and any other necessary techs needed for any particular performance. The number of people within the core at any given time should not exceed 5 heads. The basic structure of the core is as follows:

TOP DOWN

SIDE VIEW

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

The "Sonic Evolver" was developed by two Chicago-based musicians of entirely different disciplines who have been working together since 2004.
Max Glascott (The Abominable Twitch) has produced and composed over 20 full length albums in his native Chicago. He has been a part of numerous netlabels and electronic music collectives based all over the country. He has been performing as a solo and collaborative artist since 2004, and continues to explore a wide range of styles and venues as the craft of electronic music is constantly in flux. He has most recently started working with SanFrancisco-based record label, Frite Nite and his first release is due in mid-February. He is also a seasoned graphic artist and freelance animator, having worked in the post-production industry for several years before devoting his efforts to studio building, and composition.
Dominic Johnson (DoJo), a Chicago-based musician, studied viola performance at Rice University in Houston, Texas. In the late 1990's he conducted in rural Washington State for the Turtle Bluff Orchestra, and toured domestically and overseas playing rhythm viola for an indie rock band, Rachel's. Dominic is currently executive director, principal violist, and co-founder of the New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago, and performs regularly with a wide variety of modern and traditional media artists. Recent highlights have included a Midwest tour with Beach Boy Brian Wilson, a Halloween concert and forthcoming concert dvd with Grammy-nominated Rapper Lupe Fiasco, and touring and recording as Dojo with DJ/Producer Max Glascott (The Abominable Twitch).
ADDITIONAL LINKS:
Catalyst Chicago
Chicago-based artist collective and home to Max and Dominic
Dojo vs Twitch
Collaborative works from Dominic and Max
New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago

contact info@evolveandprevail.org to recieve notification of the official launch.
